Australian PGA Coolum
The Australian PGA starts at Coolum on Thursday and it is the last event of the year for most of our golfers. The PGA has a great field this year. The best from a World ranking depth and standpoint for many years. Adam Scott (world number 4) and Geoff Ogilvy (world number 11) are Australia's best two golfers at the moment and yet both have not won in Australia. We all know that that is just a matter of time, as both guys have had multiple wins on the US Tour and both have contended well and had good chances for their first win in Australia in the past couple of years. Having said that, Graeme Marsh won multiple tournaments all over the world for many years and always came back to Australia as one of the hot favorites, and only one one tournament late in his career, being the 1982 Australian PGA at Royal Melbourne. Maybe that is an omen for Geoff and Scotty? I have a few of my clients playing this week that I expect to perform well. Stuart Appleby has continued to work hard on his game and is determined to have a win on home soil this year. Stuart won the Coolum classic a few years back, so he always goes to Coolum with a good feeling about the course. Nick Flanagan has arrived back from the USA Tour school after a disapointing tournament, but he still has a full Nationwide card to look forward to in 2007. Nick needs a solid 4 round performance to use as a confidence builder to carry forward into next year and Terry Pilkadaris is starting to find form and gain confidence with the improvements we have made to his technique in the past couple of months. If Terry makes a few putts this week, I think Coolum is a good venue for his style of play.
